Sip On 8 Of The Best Hot Chocolates At These Sunshine Coast Cafes
It’s a cold winter’s day, perfect for wrapping your mittens around a hot chocolate.
Sweet and indulgent and served with a marshmallow or two, hot chocolates are often reserved as the beverage of choice for non-coffee drinkers.
But we think they should be enjoyed by all, and to convince you, we’ve compiled a list of the best hot chocolates on the Sunshine Coast.
Caution: hot content.
Silva Spoon, Cotton Tree
Bringing an unrequited elegance to the ol’ hot choc is Silva Spoon and their epic list of delicious hot chocolates. Their Sicilian Orange Hot Chocolate is a subtle blend of fine cocoa and naturally extracted Sicilian Orange oil; Chocolate Chai combines two of our favourite drinks, with cocoa, freshly ground cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg and cardamom; French Mint is always a favourite, a classic pairing of peppermint and dark cocoa; and African Red hot chocolate is a scrumptious cup of chocolately goodness. The ideal accompaniment to a piece of delicious freshly baked cake.
Nambour Social, Nambour
It’s winter, which means the Hot and Cold is back at Nambour Social. Served in a deconstructed fashion, pour their signature in-house chocolate sauce over French vanilla ice cream and let the magic begin. In case this feels like child’s play, add a little tipple—Frangelico. We dare you to wait until the ice cream has melted before devouring.
VanillaFood, Noosa Heads and Noosaville
Housemade almond milk, warming spices and organic cacao from Yukti Botanicals come together in what is one of our favourite hot chocolates on the Sunshine Coast. You can also add organic maca for an energy boost, which is also known to enhance your mood. As if we need an excuse—VanillaFood, we're coming for you.
Decisions, Birtinya
In the holiest of all unions at Decisions, Nutella and hot chocolate come together for what we think is the closest you’ll come to a warm hug in a mug. With a generous layer of Nutella coating the inside of the glass, melting as it comes into contact with the textured chocolate milk, then dusted with more chocolate and sprinkled in mini marshmallows, you’ll definitely need a spoon for this one.
The Nines, Maroochydore
Our friends at The Nines are known for over the top creations and their hot chocolates are no exception. Sure, they offer the traditional hot choccie with marshmallows, but if you’re feeling adventurous, why not try one of their loaded hot chocolates? With a revolving menu of Willie Wonka-esque concoctions luring us back on the regular, popular toppings have included wafers, Tim Tams, marshmallow fluff, drizzles of Hershey’s chocolate sauce, musk sticks, Oreos and Turkish Delight. Drooling yet?
CK Coffee Bar & Wholefoods, Mooloolaba
Hot chocolates are usually a guilty pleasure, but at CK Coffee Bar & Wholefoods, you can satisfy those cravings and actually improve your health. Their Mushroom Cacao Latte is made using the Reishi mushroom, which they tell us is an anti-stress herb and is believed to reduce stress and calm your mind. It’s definitely unique and that’s why we’re calling it one of the best hot chocolates on the Sunshine Coast.
Clandestino Roasters, Noosaville
The Ayurmyan Spiced Chocolate at Clandestino Roasters is made with Yukti Botanicals’ handcrafted tonic–a delicious blend of Ayurvedic spices, raw cacao, cacao butter and vanilla. It is seasonally versatile, served as a hot beverage in winter to keep you toasty, and in the sweltering summer days, it is served cold over ice.
Cafe Vie, Buderim
From the moment it hits the table, the mouth-watering aromas of Cafe Vie's hot chocolate will play with your senses. And the fact it’s served authentically in a jug, make this hot chocolate also totally worthy of a square on your Instagram feed. Using Mörk specialty hot chocolate from Melbourne, you know it’s going to be seriously delish. There is a 50% and 70%, depending on your palate. The former contains 50% pure cacao and is rich and dark with a toffee-like sweetness coming from coconut sugar; and the 70% is made with 100% cacao liquor, sweetened only with unrefined coconut blossom sugar, and you can expect notes of stone fruit, almonds and ripe berries with hints of toffee and a lingering dark chocolate finish. Do you really need more convincing? We think not.
