Who’s Dishing Up The Best Pancakes On The Sunshine Coast?
Pancakes, crepes or hotcakes; no matter how you flip it, pancakes have stacked up as a breakfast favourite for generations (30,000 years in fact). So with the chill of winter having us seeking comfort food, there’s nothing more warming than feasting on piping hot pancakes laden with tasty toppings. With that in mind, we’ve compiled a list of where to find the best pancakes on the Sunshine Coast, BYO stretchy pants.
The Nines, Maroochydore
Creators of the sweetest stack on the Sunshine Coast, The Nines are constantly pushing the boundaries. Firstly you have the crowd favourite, Pancake Manor, dressed with berry coulis, chocolate soil and matcha crumb, chocolate fudge and seasonal berries, served with maple syrup and vanilla ice cream. Then there are drool-worthy monthly specials, including chocolate chip pancakes topped with a chocolate ice cream waffle cone, drizzled with caramel sauce and crushed M&Ms; and who can forget the Curly Cassie, combining our love for pancakes, waffles and donuts in one epic dish.
Cafe Vie, Buderim
Cafe Vie is making sure everyone can have their pancake and eat it too with their chai-spiced pancakes. Packing a flavour punch, the pancakes are accompanied by a delicately poached pear, pillowy soft coconut whipped cream, toasted almonds and agave nectar. You definitely don’t need to be vegan to enjoy this plateful.
Season Restaurant, Noosa
Thanks to Season Restaurant, it’s now acceptable to eat dessert for breakfast. Taking the British banoffee pie as inspiration, their buttermilk pancakes are thick and fluffy, the perfect canvas for the decadent and delicious flavours of banana and caramel finished with a crunchy pretzel crumb. Easily some of the best pancakes on the Sunshine Coast.
Flinders Lane, Maroochydore
Flinders Lane is flipping the traditional pancake on its head and proving it doesn’t always need to serve your sweet side. Catering to the savory lovers among us with the perfect brunch offering, the Korean pancake comes with mushrooms, wombok, a fried egg and Korean barbecue sauce that will have you licking the plate clean.
One Block Back, Moffat Beach
Whoever said size doesn’t matter clearly never had a hotcake. One Block Back’s Canadian maple and blueberry hotcake is pretty as a picture and it tastes scrumptious too. Perfectly light and fluffy, each mouthful is a delight with roasted apple nut crumble, semifreddo, caramel popcorn foam and raspberry dust. It is big enough to share or if you dare, indulge all on your own, we won’t judge.
Harvest Breads + Cafe, Maroochydore
Harvest Breads + Cafe is satisfying both sweet and savory cravings with their pancake offerings. The blueberry pancakes have become a firm favourite, served with lip-smacking lemon curd made fresh in-house, maple syrup and ice cream, it’s simple and delicious. Then you have the potato and feta pancakes with rocket, avocado, aioli and onion marmalade, and just when you think it can’t get any better, there is the option to add bacon or smoked salmon. Yes, please.
Elliott’s Bistro, Alexandra Headland
The pancakes at Elliott’s Bistro have us feeling a little bit naughty and a little bit nice with two flavour combinations on offer. The pineapple pancakes are totally tropic, with caramelised pineapple, lemon and passionfruit curd, toasted coconut chips, maple syrup and vanilla bean ice cream; and then there are the berry pancakes with berry compote, maple syrup and vanilla bean ice cream.
Beau’s Cafe, Kings Beach
Sometimes it’s best not to mess with a classic and Beau’s has most definitely nailed it with their old fashioned take on this dish. Landing a spot on our list of the best pancakes on the Sunshine Coast, theirs are served with whipped maple butter, raspberry compote, fresh berries and vanilla ice cream, and if you’re keen, you can add bacon.
Velo Project, Alexandra Headland
What we love most about crepes is that they’re delicate, making them the perfect carrier of flavours. Velo Project is clearly a fan too, with eight epic buckwheat crêpes on the menu. Our favourites are the Huon Valley smoked salmon with baby beets, mizuna leaves, heirloom carrots, fresh pear and sage lemon dressing; and you can’t beat their take on Crepes Suzette, with a generous squeeze of market fresh lemon, rapadura sugar and Chantilly cream.
Decisions, Birtinya
In true Decisions-style, they have pimped out their version of the blueberry and ricotta hotcake with a poached pear, silky smooth honey macadamia semifreddo, creamy mascarpone, spiced mead syrup and a sprinkle of nut crumble. Pancake lovers, rejoice.
